Make Ideas Happen

Great ideas are conceived and subsequently lost in the hands of creative geniuses, everyday.
Behance is a philosophy, method, product, and network created to help capture and present ideas. A company and community.
Company
Behance.com is where philosophies and methods are presented along with a product offering - the outfitter. The products are designed around the “action method” and the creative mind. The Action Pad includes: 1. a prep / focus section to write pre-brainstorm thoughts and research. 2. a notation area for notes and sketches. 3. an action item list to help make sure things get done. 4. a back-burner area… cause unrelated ideas can come up at anytime.
Community
Behance.net is a facebook-like creative community with easy-to-use tools to showcase work (film, advertising, music, and writing). Groups or “circles” are built to share and discuss creative topics (graphic design, technology, typography, product design, and beyond). With a designated tip exchange as an additional vessel to share knowledge. Gig postings help connect talent to jobs, and an availability status helps connect freelancers to work or collaborative projects. Here is my Behance profile / portfolio.
There is more to the Behance picture than painted here. But, the central idea is that there is a philosophy, a product, and a community. And a great business model. I mean, lets say Behance.net was built strictly to sell more product (Which I don’t believe is true). What a smart move, regardless. The community adds value to their current brand and offering. And has the potential to add insights into future products and offerings. Nice.
But, does this (philosophy, product, community) strategy work for other brands, companies, or services? I think it can. Say there is a legal mantra - a concise manifesto on justice. And then a product, a “legal pad” that is set up with a justice-driven-process in mind. Additionally, a legal network of firms and attorneys connected around it all, sharing and collaborating. Or a network of janitors and a cleaning philosophy? No?
Ok, well the basic business model is solid. And I think given the appropriate product or brand its a strategy to learn from and apply. And if anything, a tremendous case study for the Behance company and team.
